Introduction |
IntroductionAfter fourteen years of employment in a saddle shop in Spokane, Washington, I realized the need for a quality custom leather shop in North Idaho. That's where Scratch'n Post Saddlery originated in 1989. Through the years I've learned the art of making quality saddles and pack equipment that stand the test of time and use. I've built saddles for pleasure riders, ropers, ranchers, award saddles, and replicas of old-time saddles. Some people ride for only a few hours, some for all day, but they all say a custom saddle far exceeds the comfort of a factory-made saddle. Not only is it important for a saddle to fit a horse, but equally important for a saddle to fit the rider. I strive to ensure that fit and comfort are built into every saddle. Keep in mind that this is a custom shop and I can build any saddle you desire. The following pages are examples of only a few of the saddles I have built and one famous saddle that I restored. Happy Trails, Testimonials My wife and I have owned mules for 20 years and always had trouble getting tack to fit. I contacted Mike Hanson because he had made several pack items for us and they were always well-made and usable. I discussed with Mike what we wanted and he took the time to order the trees uncovered, fit them to the mules, had them covered with rawhide, and then made the saddles to our specifications. The completed saddles are something that anyone would be proud to ride. The workmanship is excellent and they fit the mules like a glove. Mike is not only a superior saddle maker, but is a cowboy who uses the
equipment he makes - so he knows what works and what does not. If you are
considering having Mike construct you a saddle and want to see the quality of
his work feel free to call Jim or Lois Peterson at Double Bar Mules (509)
